The National Committee on “Environment and Children’s Health” (EPEYP) and the Cyprus Paediatric Society (CPS) are co-organizing the 19th Annual Two-Day Conference of EPEYP, on Wednesday and Thursday, October 11 and 12, 2023.
The Conference is held under the auspices of the Minister of Health, Dr. Popi Kanari, who will officially open the proceedings on Thursday, October 12 at 2:30 p.m.
At the dawn of the 21st century, development has brought thousands of man-made substances and new technologies whose rapid expansion often surpasses the capacity for effective control regarding their health impacts, especially on the developing organism of the fetus and child. The ongoing climate crisis, particularly the deterioration of air quality, also causes serious effects on children’s health. The challenge of protecting them is immense for us and can only be addressed based on the twin pillars of “Scientific Evidence and the Precautionary Principle.” Key is the reduction of exposure to toxic agents.
Therefore, our goal is PREVENTION through education, awareness, and empowerment of children, parents, educators, the medical community, and all those involved with children.
At this year’s Conference, we will have the pleasure of hosting distinguished speakers of international repute from Cyprus and Greece, who will cover a broad range of topics including risks and impacts of climate change, new tobacco products, genetic factors, misuse of new technology, and its effects on the psychosomatic development of the child, among others.
The Conference is entirely open to all, with the first day mainly focused on parents, educators, and the general public, and the second day dedicated to doctors and other health professionals specialized in children’s health.
