On January 28, a meeting was held with the Cyprus National Addictions Authority, at the Authority’s offices in Nicosia. The main topics of discussion were Tobacco and New Tobacco Products, their impact on Children’s Health, the current Legislation on Smoking, the sharp increase in the use of New Tobacco Products by minors, and the lack of awareness of the risks they pose, both among the children themselves and their parents/guardians. The issue of the misuse of Technology was also discussed, namely the uncontrolled use and dependence of children on the Internet and Social Media, and the multifaceted effects these have on their physical and psychological health as well as on their proper development.
During the meeting, it was agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions, to carry out joint actions, and to undertake initiatives for the protection of children from the various risks that threaten their Health and Well-being.
