20th Conference: “The Impact of Environmental Effects on Child Health: Developments, Emerging Risks, and Prevention”
Institute of Neurology and Genetics, 7th & 8th November 2024, 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
The National Committee “Environment and Child Health” (EEPY) and the Cyprus Paediatric Society (CPS) are co-organizing the 20th Annual EEPY Conference on Thursday and Friday, 7th and 8th November 2024, from 15:00 to 19:00 at the Institute of Neurology and Genetics. The conference is under the auspices of the Minister of Health, Mr. Michalis Damianou, and will also be addressed by the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr. Athina Michailidou.
During the conference, we will have the pleasure of hosting distinguished scientists from Cyprus, Greece, Austria, and Germany, who will present highly interesting and timely topics concerning environmental risks that threaten children’s health and healthy development. Topics to be presented include: the pros and cons of the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence, protecting children from the misuse of technology, online safety, the relationship between the environment and heart health, the negative effects of dermocosmetics, micro/nanoplastics, new tobacco products, the correct diagnosis and management of children with ADHD, and more.
The first day of the conference (7th November) is primarily aimed at doctors and other healthcare professionals. Conversely, the second day (8th November) is mainly directed toward educators, parents, and the general public. Our goal is to educate, raise awareness, and empower children, parents, educators, the medical community, and all those involved with children for the effective PREVENTION of the Environmental Effects on Child Health. It is acknowledged that technological advancements and overconsumption have not only brought positive changes but also many negative impacts on the environment and health. Their uncontrolled and rapid development surpasses the ability for effective regulation, especially concerning their effects on health, particularly the developing body of fetuses and children. Environmental pollution from toxic substances and micro/nanoplastics, along with the misuse of technology, poses serious risks to the physical and mental development and health of children. The challenge of protecting them is immense and can only be addressed through the twin principles of “Scientific Evidence and the Precautionary Principle.” A key factor is the reduction of exposure to toxic and other harmful factors.
The conference has been accredited with 3 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits by the Cyprus Medical Association (PIS), and a certificate of participation will be provided. Participation is free, and attendees can join both days of the event. However, due to limited seating, a first-come, first-served policy will be applied. Therefore, early registration is recommended, either via this link or by emailing info@paidi.com.cy by 31st October 2024.
